Armisey Smith, curator of the exhibition, Despite the Spoils, will be in conversation with artist Krystle Lemonias. They will be discussing their individual creative practices, and what inspires and motivates them in the artworld. They will speak specifically to art and artifacts in the exhibition space and the program will conclude with a Question and Answer session.

This exhibition is the first iteration of a series titled, An Invisible City (Newark). This exhibition is centered around 25,000 artifacts that were excavated from a city block in a historic part of Newark. This interdisciplinary project brings to light new knowledge and stories about the city of Newark. The exhibition consists of artifacts selected by Armisey Smith and work by contemporary artists: Eleven, Pam Cooper, Monifa Kincaid, Krystle Lemonias & Theda Sandiford.

Armisey Smith is a Brooklyn born, Newark artist, educator, illustrator and curator with a BFA (Parsons School of Design) and an MPS (Pratt Institute).

Krystle Lemonias is a Jamaican interdisciplinary visual artist, labor activist, and art educator. She acquired a BFA (New Jersey City University) and an MFA (University of South Florida.)

The Paul Robeson Galleries’ programs are supported, in part, by grants from The City of Newark (Creative Catalyst Fund), The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, and by private donations.
